William Ward Barrett, known to all as Bill, passed away at his home in Destin, Florida on September 16, 2023 at the age of 88.
He was born on June 23, 1935 in Waldport, Oregon and grew up in West Salem, where he developed a love for the outdoors while enjoying countless hours hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dogs.
Bill met his wife, Eileen, in Salem, Oregon and they were married for sixty-eight years.
Joining the United States Air Force, Bill served from 1954 until his retirement in 1974. He was transferred to Hurlburt Field in Okaloosa County, Florida in 1963, where he spent the next ten years as a member of the Marksmanship Training Unit for the Air Commando Wing. His final few years in the Air Force were as a Ground Safety Inspector, serving throughout Southeast Asia.
Bill and Eileen moved to Destin in 1977. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, watching Alabama football, and sharing time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ward N. Barrett; mother, Rose Davis Barrett; and sister, Selma Paulson.
Left to cherish Bill's memory are his wife, Eileen; daughter, Nancy Williams; sons, Bill (Cathy), Mark (Kristin), and Dennis; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; as well as two, great-great grandchildren.
