Walter Rodgers Warren Sr.

Walter R. Warren Sr., (Bill) departed this life March 14, 2019 at 7:00 a.m. surrounded by his family at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

Bill was born in Kurthwood, LA March 7, 1943 to the late John I. and Myrtle D. Warren.  Bill was the third of eight children.  He united with the Ellen Burr Baptist Church at an early age.  Bill graduated from Vernon High School in 1962 and enlisted in the USAF the same year.  He met and married Emma Thompson in 1966, to this union a son Walter Warren Jr., was born.

During Bill’s illustrative Air Force career, he was afforded the opportunity to travel extensively; his tours of duty included Thailand, Hawaii, California, Korea, Nebraska, England, and finally San Antonio where he retired in 1986.  Bill received numerous awards and medals, to include: The Small Arms Expert Marksman and Republic Vietnam Campaign medal.  After retiring from the Air Force, he was a Veterans Representative at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for 24 years and during that time he received several Employee of The Year Awards.

Bill and Emma retired to Crestview, FL in January 2010.  During the time, he continued to dedicate his time to serving veterans, as a volunteer at the local VA.

He leaves to cherish in memory his wife, Emma Warren; son, Walter Warren Jr (Coral); his brothers, Herman (Marlene), Donald (Barbara), Harold (Debra), and his sisters; LuePearl, Mikki (Reginold), Eloise (Wilfred); two sister in-laws, Jeraldine and Shirley and one brother in-law, Michael.  Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn (Raymond) and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Ellen Burr Baptist Church, 1480 Pine Road, Leesville, Louisiana 71446, on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Earnest C. Smith officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
