Virginia Trawick Obituary

Virginia “Ginny” Katherine Davis Trawick left this world on Thursday, March 12th, 2026 in her home in Shalimar, Florida.  She was born on February 4th, 1944 in Washington DC, the daughter of Dale Alva Davis and Evelyn Katherine Rosen Davis.  Her father was a member of the Air Force and the family traveled many places while she grew; this fostered a love of seeing new places throughout her life.  When Dale retired, the family settled in Fort Walton Beach, Florida where Ginny graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1961. She met her lifelong best friend Anita Hammock Rowe at her beloved Choctaw and could often be heard humming “Fight On”, the first fight song of the school, especially when she passed by the campus on Racetrack Road.  After graduating high school, she married Michael Taylor and traveled the world as he performed his duties in the Navy.  Michael was stationed in Japan, Hawaii, and Memphis, Tennessee during their union.  Ginny’s most cherished dream was to be a mother and the pair welcomed three children into their lives: Ellen Marie Taylor, Shawn Michael Taylor, and Jon Patrick Taylor.

Ginny relocated to Fort Walton Beach in 1973 and began working at White Wilson in its old location at the Fort Walton Medical complex.  After a few years she moved to General Hospital of Fort Walton Beach working in the lab for Dr. Roy Clemons and Angela Veal.  Through countless name changes Ginny worked at the hospital, eventually moving to administration as the executive assistant to David McClellan.  When he left the hospital she transferred to Senior Friends, which like the hospital itself, would go through several name changes as well.  She worked assisting several leaders until she became the director of the program until her retirement after dedicating 40 years working for the hospital.

In 1981 Ginny married Robert Garner Trawick.  The two would remain married until his death in 2015.  She often remarked on the love they shared together and the joy of seeing their grandchildren grow up and getting to visit with their extended family and friends.  Their grandchildren Joshua Huckaby, Kristen Carlstrom, Keilani Carlstrom, Jennifer Taylor, and Steven Taylor were responsible for some of their happiest memories and brought their grandparents great warmth and love.  Ginny was incredibly pleased to speak to her newborn great grandson Michael Alan Geer in January.

Ginny loved traveling.  From living in Germany to her beloved Hawaii, she enjoyed seeing the world and experiencing all that it offered.  Trips to Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Canada, Japan, and other locations outside of the United States made lasting impressions on her.  Within the US she loved visiting San Francisco, Saint Augustine, San Antonio, Savannah, Charleston, Memphis, and as her father called it, “West by God Virginia”.  She made incredible friendships with so many people that she loved to catch up and visit with.  She loved simply spending time with the wonderful people that she knew and loved.  She enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with her loved ones.  She spent hours on genealogy and studying her family (and other families’) history.  She enjoyed gardening and photography and took particular joy in Thanksgiving and Christmas time when her extended family would visit and spend time together.  She loved deeply and enjoyed her life and the happiness it brought her.

Ginny is survived by her three children, Ellen, Shawn and his wife, Pam Wilkerson Taylor, Jon and his wife, Tammy Huckaby Taylor, and her bonus sons, Joseph Carlstrom and Mark McCann; She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Joshua, Kristen, Keilani, Jennifer and her husband Robert Geer, and Steven; as well as her great grandson, Michael Geer.  Her extended family includes nieces and nephews from the Trawick, Taylor and Davis families; her bonus grandchildren, Carlos Flores and Jaycie Silvas; and so many wonderful friends that have been a part of her life for many years.

Ginny is joining many members of her family that left before her.  Her grandparents, parents, husband, brother, Dale Davis Jr and his wife Sue, many uncles, aunts and loved ones.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20th, 2026 at Davis Watkins Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Rd NE, Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32547 beginning at 11:00AM. The family will receive friends an hour prior starting at 10:00AM. Interment will immediately follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
