Thomas O'Shea Obituary

Thomas J O’Shea, aged 94 years, died Jan. 4, 2024.

Tom was born in Dunkirk, NY on April 11, 1929 to Thomas and Margaret (Somnitz) O’Shea.

A member of the Boy Scouts of America, he achieved the rank of “Eagle Scout”.

After graduating from Dunkirk High School in 1946, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Japan for two years.

Upon his return from the service, he graduated from a 2 year program at the New York State Technical College in Morrisville, NY.

He worked for short periods for M. W. Kellogg and Allied Chemical Corp.

In 1956 he joined Union Carbide Corporation, where he worked for 30 years in the Carbon Products Division, retiring in 1986 as a Senior Engineering Manager of the Controls System Group in the Central Engineering Department in Parma, OH.  His work required him to travel to plants in the States, as well as Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America and South Africa.  He lived in Berea, OH for 14 years and in Strongsville, OH for 6 years, moving to Ft. Walton Beach, FL. upon retirement from Union Carbide.

He then accepted a position as National Field Service Manager with Texas Instruments in Hunt Valley, MD.  In 1992 he retired again, returning to FWB, FL. where he did engineering consulting for a year at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL and at Eglin Air Force Base.  Then for several years he enjoyed working at local golf courses.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gail of 44 years, daughters Sandra O’Shea (Douglas Thorn) of Strongsville, OH and Kathleen O’Shea of Lakewood, OH  (Alan Van Kramer, deceased), sons Thomas of Berea, OH, Patrick (Christine) of Westfield, IN, Timothy of Pensacola, FL., 7 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Margaret, and his sister Gertrude Apps (Wilfred).
