Terry Donavon Marzen

Terry Donavon Marzen, age 79, of Crestview, Florida sailed away March 21, 2020.  He was born in Okemos, Michigan on March 16, 1941 to George and Mildred Marzen.  He attended Okemos High School, West Palm Beach Junior College, Florida State Night School, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.  He served his country for four years in the United States Airforce, completing several electronics courses. On January 18, 1963, at the Eglin Airforce Base, Terry married Betty, the love of his life. To this union was born two beautiful daughters. 

Terry lived in seven states in the south.  One of his last jobs was with a large corporation out of Little Rock, Arkansas.  His primary account was Entergy, located in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He had the honor of representing 30 companies.  On Terry’s last big job (multi-million) he ordered and coordinated with a Japanese company that included trips to Japan to work engineering on those projects.

Terry was an Eagle Scout, played football, loved band, dancing, fishing and theatre, especially shows like Cats. His favorite pastime was sailing.  Terry also enjoyed various genres of music including classical, country, jazz, and big band to name a few. Most of all he loved spending time with his family on vacations and traveling to other countries. Terry was a real talker and was quite good as a speaker. He enjoyed reading, especially sailing magazines like Wooden Boat, among others.  

Terry is survived by his loving wife Betty Sarah Barnhill Marzen; children, Cynthia Hainchek, born July 11, 1966 and Julie Volger, born December 4, 1969, husband, Brian Volger; grandchildren, Will Ranum, Kyle Vogler, Lance Hainchek, and Carson Vogler; sibling, Charles Marzen; nephews, Coy Clark, Larry Howard, Scott Marzen, and Stan Howard; nieces, Gwen Bailey, Jacqueline Barron, and Sherri Jefferies; cousins, Doug Robinson, Sue Galloway and Mike Luck and a host of extended family and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Marzen.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 6:00 p.m., at Davis Watkins Crestview Memorial, Crestview, Florida.

Terry’s ashes will be scattered under State Highway 331 bridge at a later date. The family will charter a large sailboat for the occasion.
