It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Silvio “Yogi” D’Orazio, who departed this life peacefully on May 23, 2025, at 90 years of age. Yogi was born on April 3, 1935, in Burlington, Vermont, to Victor and Marianna D’Orazio. After graduating from the University of Vermont, he joined the United States Air Force and entered Undergraduate Navigator training.
As a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Yogi served his country for over twenty-five years with honor and distinction as a Command Navigator, recognized for bravery during numerous combat missions over Southeast Asia. After his military career, he dedicated his life as an engineer and inspirational leader, solving problems with precision and care that spanned many technical areas to include managing Space Shuttle systems to developing cutting edge advanced missile technology. Yogi was renowned for his innovative ideas, determination, and kindness.
Yogi was a dedicated husband to Joanne, his loving wife of sixty-eight years, and a devoted father to his four children, Peter, John, Diane and Teresa. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Yogi’s advice was sought by many, and his calm presence was a source of comfort to all who knew him.
Yogi’s legacy is one of integrity, resilience, and love. A memorial service celebrating Yogi’s life will take place at Resurrection Catholic Church in Miramar Beach, Florida on 20 June 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear bright colors in honor of Yogi’s vibrant personality. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital of the Emerald Coast or a charity of your choice.
