It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our mother, Shirley Temple Moore McLaughlin, December 25, 2025 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She was born in Flowersview, Florida, October 31,1937 to Marvin Daniel and Mattie Lee (Wilson) Moore.
Shirley was a force of nature. She was tough, extremely intelligent, a natural born leader and kind beyond words. Shirley was always willing to help anyone in need, and quick to tell you that she loved you. Since she was known to be a very straight forward person, you knew exactly where she was coming from yet she always conveyed peace and the power of forgiveness. She loved fashion and was impeccably well-dressed. Shirley was an extremely hard-working individual, and was fiercely loyal to her friends and family. The phrase that best described her: “Treat people the way you want to be treated.” Her life was well lived and filled with love.
Shirley was a loving mother to Malcolm Daniel McLaughlin, Timothy Damien McLaughlin, Joseph Franklin McLaughlin, Sharon Barrant (Winston), and Icelia Fedd (Micheal). She was employed as a successful Medical Researcher at the VA Hospital in Denver, Colorado for over 30 years where she received numorous awards and accolades for her work. As Union President who fought fiercely, never losing a case. She was an avid reader, loved sports, traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Shirley was a proud graduate of Tivoli High School in DeFuniak Springs (class of “55”) and attended Florida A&M University where she obtained certifications as a medical reseacher specializing in cancer research.
She was preceded in death by one son, Malcolm Daniel McLaughlin and one grandson, Jaret Lee McLaughlin.
Shirley is survived by her children and grandchildren: Malcolm Barrant, Justin McLaughlin, Joah McLaughlin, Micheal Fedd, Jr, Micah Fedd, Mi’Kayla Fedd; and her beloved caregiver, Leanna Feagin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 247 U.S. Highway 331 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida beginning at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow at Flowersview Cemetery.
