Shirley Bell Obituary

Shirley Sue Bell (Tootie), age 59, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024.  She was born March 5, 1964, in DeFuniak Springs, to the late Matthew Gundrum and Mary Broxton. Shirley was the baby sister with the firecracker personality, smile to warm any heart, and the gift of laughter to turn any day around. If there was a laugh, she was probably creating it.  Shirley has always known and loved the Lord, regardless of whichever way the wind was blowing her. No questions asked, she loved her family and nothing was too much if they asked. Shirley dominated the table when it came to spades, dominoes, or banging pots to create a meal. She was the life of the party and fishing hole queen, and these are all the things that made Shirley's nicknames: Tootie, Tenashe, Auntie, Friend, and Mama.

She is preceded in death by her father, Matthew Gundrum; mother, Mary Broxton; son, Deval Anderson; and two brothers, Robert and Hardy Jackson.

Left to fill her legacy and hold in their hearts, her husband, Cardell Bell (Ebro, Florida); children, daughters, Latisha Anderson (DeFuniak Springs), and Jessica Anderson Simmons (Alicia) (Chipley, Florida); one son, Durrell Anderson (DeFuniak Springs); and one bonus daughter, Rylanda Campbell (Crestview, Florida); 10 grandchildren, Trinity Brown, Alyssa Brown, Devon Tyson, Cornuilis McKenzie (Nuk), Jaqueiz McKenzie, Jaleel Hobdy, Kali Hobdy, Kalyssa Anderson, Jeremiah Troublefield, and Jabari Anderson; one great-granchild, Tameris Walker; sisters, Ella Carswell, Dorothy (Charles) Caldwell, and Annette (Freddie) Cherry (all of Defuniak Springs), Voncille Gundrum, and Dorothy Jean Barnes, (both of Fort Walton Beach, Florida); two brothers, Willie (Brenda) Gundrum and Levon Jackson (both of DeFuniak Springs); and lastly, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many more family and friends.  Shirley loved all her nieces and nephews, but the one she had a special love and relationship with was Kizzy, who she called, "Fats'', and Kisha Hooks Brinson, who she called "Legs''.
