Sergio Raúl Villarreal Jr., age 23, of Destin, Florida, passed away suddenly on April 14, 2026.
Jr. had a beautiful soul, and his kindness, sweetness, and bright smile touched all who knew him. He had a sharp mind and a playful spirit—he loved to tease, laugh, and make those around him smile. He cherished quiet moments scrolling on his computer researching jobs, travel, and paths to fulfill his future. He had a tenacious curiosity and a vibrant spirit that was showcased by his ambition in everything he did. Nothing, however, brought him as much joy as the special time he spent with his family.
He deeply loved his mother, Christina Tijerina, and his stepfather, Oscar Gomez. He would sit quietly with his mom, enjoying heartfelt talks about all his hopes for his life. He loved his stepfather’s kindness and delicious cooking, often requesting special meals that brought them closer together. He also maintained a strong relationship with his father, Sergio Villarreal. Junior visited him as often as life allowed and was looking forward to visit again soon.
Jr. adored his grandmother, Luisa Bolado. He loved getting spoiled by her and would lovingly tease her, saying he was going to take care of her when she got older. During his visits to Mexico, his belly and heart were both kept full by his other grandmother, Feliz Edilia Cruz Garcia.
Independent and determined, Jr. had big plans. He was on the verge of graduating with a double major and was full of excitement at the thought of the next chapter of his life. From a young age, he had a maturity and understanding that surpassed those of his age. He had a brilliance that was often overlooked due to his humble spirit, but he was always thinking two steps ahead. He enjoyed his work at Walmart, where he made many new friends and was surrounded by caring people who remember him as a hard-working and kind individual and are shocked by the loss.
His two sisters, Sky and Luna, had an amazing older brother. He was their fierce protector, always vigilant whether it be on trips visiting family in Mexico or during beach days. He gripped their hands, watched all around them, and ensured they were safe. His three cousins—William, Juan, and Patrick—were like brothers to him. They grew up together and shared countless memories. The boys often said there was not one thing anyone could say that was bad about Jr. To know him was to love him because he was so much fun to hangout with. His absence will be felt by all who knew him.
Jr. was incredibly smart. Once he had an idea or a goal, nothing could stop him. He pursued his dreams with focus and passion. We quickly learned to never doubt him because once his heart was set on something, whether it be finishing school or succeeding in life, nothing could rein in his drive. One thing is for sure: through laughter, thoughtful conversations, and joyous smiles- he irreversibly impacted us all. We have so many funny memories of him, and that is how we encourage all to remember him- as a kind and happy person whose joy was infectious.
He leaves behind his loving mother, Christina Tijerina; his stepfather, Oscar Gomez; his father, Sergio Villarreal; his two sisters, Sky and Luna; his beloved grandmothers, Luisa and Edilia; his brother-cousins William, Juan, and Patrick, his aunts Lydia, Lynnette, and Elva who were like mothers to him; his uncle Murray, who was a father figure; and so many other aunts, uncles, and cousins—too many to mention—along with a wide circle of family and friends whose lives are forever changed by his presence. Though his time with us was far too short, the love and memories he gave us will last a lifetime.
While our grief will forever be felt, solace is found in the knowledge that he is with his Father, our God, and his grandfathers, who are holding his hand.
We love you, Jr. Until we see you again, sweet boy.
