Selina Dunworth Obituary

Winnie Selina Wisenbaker Dunworth, age 77, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed on May 3, 2020. Selina was born on February 4th, 1943 in Valdosta, Georgia to William Wisenbaker and Mildred Wilson Wisenbaker. She graduated valedictorian from Valdosta High School in 1960 where she played point guard for the basketball team, earning all-state honors in her junior and senior years. She then attended Valdosta State College, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and afterwards the University of Miami, earning a Masters Degree in Mathematics. Later as an educator, Selina brought the systematic mindset of mathematics to hundreds of students at the high school and college levels.

Introduced through a mutual friend and fellow teacher, Selina met her future husband Jerry Dunworth in Atlanta. The happy couple eventually settled in Gainesville, Florida where they raised their two children, Kevin and Selina Lynn, until the children left for college in the early 1990s.  She donated her time to family passions and officiating sports such as gymnastics and tennis.

Selina loved to fish and was a devoted Christian and animal lover. After moving back to Lake Park, Georgia in 1994, she ran a successful non-profit animal rescue, specializing in cats and kittens. She was intelligent, athletic, compassionate and strong in body, mind and spirit.

Selina is survived by her two children, Kevin Dunworth (wife Charlotte) and Selina Weller (husband Adam); her loving grandchildren, Scott and Lanie;  her sister, Kathryn Wisenbaker Strickland (husband Hal); sister-in-law, Mary Jane Wisenbaker; nieces, nephews and several step-siblings. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Wisenbaker; her parents; and her step-father, Carl Watkins.

A Memorial Service will be held in Lake Park, Georgia when current pandemic conditions have subsided.
