Ruth Wratten Obituary

Ruth A. Wratten of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away Monday June 1, 2020 at the age of 71. She was born in June 6, 1948, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the daughter of the late William H. and Ruth B. Wratten.

Ruth was a long-time active member of the Covenant Community Church. Defined by her faith, her love of family and friends, and her devotion to her students, Ruth’s life exemplified one of her favorite verses from Scripture, Romans 8:28: “And we know that all good things work together for good to those that love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.”

For Ruth, that purpose was being a teacher. Her career spanned 50 years in Fort Walton Beach elementary schools, where she eventually specialized as a reading teacher for young learners. Her dedication to her students was reflected in their great affection for her.

Ruth was always there for her family and friends. She was a sympathetic listener and a wise counselor, maintaining lifelong friendships. She was also devoted to her golden retriever, Dreamer, who was her companion for many years.

Ruth is survived by her siblings, Betty Wratten of Fort Walton Beach, FL and her brother, William B. Wratten of Chicago, IL; the David Salzman family and the Bobby Salzman family; as well as a host of cousins and many wonderful friends.

A gentle, yet strong, and generous soul, Ruth will be missed as much as she was loved.

Services will be private. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Community Church for its ongoing children’s mission in Uganda (cccfwb.com, scroll to the bottom to donate and type Uganda in the message box).
