Ruth Lowery Fuller

Elinor Ruth Lowery Fuller, age 80, of Darlington, Florida passed from this life Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at her home, surrounded by family.  She was born February 2, 1941 to John William Bruce Lowery and Ara Murice Daughtry Lowery in Lowery, Alabama. Her mother passed when Ruth was 12 years old. She helped her father for the next several years, cooking, taking care of the household, and helping care for her brother. She did all of this while remaining active in school sports, playing basketball, softball, volleyball, running track, and continuing to maintain good grades. In 1957 while on Christmas vacation, she married Rupert A. Fuller Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama. In 1959, they purchased a country store in Darlington, Florida from Mrs. Ruth Green, who was retiring after owning the store for 50 years. That year, she gave birth to a baby girl. Ruth put pursuing her education on hold to nurture and enjoy her new baby and help her husband with the family business. When her daughter entered grade school, she returned to college and became a registered nurse, graduating with an Associate of Arts degree from Gulf Coast Community College. She worked for several years in three area hospitals, but gave up her career in 1980 to care for her aging father and brother. She said, “I love nursing but I love my father more.” After her father died, she returned to school and got her BS in nursing from Troy State in Dothan. She spent most of her life using the gift that God had blessed her with by nurturing and caring for others. First her ailing mother, then her father, later her new husband and infant daughter, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and finally her invalid brother. She will be remembered most for her love of God, family, and neighbors. She was a member of Darlington Methodist Church for over 60 years but also attended Darlington Baptist Church.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 45 years, Rupert A. Fuller, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Karan Fuller Rockett; two grandchildren, Jonathan Allen Rockett and fiance Madison and Jessica Rockett Miller and husband Garrett; five grandchildren, Kiley Gin Edwards, Addalynne Jaye Miller, Bryson Ty Miller, Reese Klayre Miller, and Arya Rose Rockett; one brother, Vernon Bruce Lowery; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Darlington Baptist Church with Brother Barry Joiner and Brother Jim Crews officiating. A time of visitation to be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will be held at Darlington Community Cemetery (formerly Darlington Methodist Cemetery).
