Ronald Deckert Obituary

Ron Deckert, age 78, of Ponce de Leon, Florida, passed away at home Thursday, July 30, 2026 while surrounded by his wife, children, family, and of course, his deer mounts. He was born July 5, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois to his late parents, Frank Sr. and Evelyn Deckert.

Ron’s story traversed that of multiple lives as he maneuvered three open heart surgeries and countless others in his 78 years. While he could list those operations in his sleep, and many of those around him had heard him do just that, his life was so much more. Ron was a family man, a provider and protector, and a lover of the outdoors. Starting in Chicago, family was everything. As the second child of six, it was rare to hear a story of expedition or mischief that didn’t include his brothers or sister. That close bond landed Ron in Fort Walton Beach, Florida where he met his wife Jeannie and they raised their two sons, Rick and Chris - the three people he lived for more than anything.

Ron’s service to his community was through his work as a prosthetist. He was dedicated to his craft and held compassion for every patient that came before him. Finally, from childhood summers in Hayward, Wisconsin to his farm in Ponce de Leon, Florida where he took his last breath, every ounce of Ron’s heart longed for nature. He connected with so many people based on this affinity alone. Ron left a legacy built on family that will be carried on by all those close to him.

In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his sister, Lisette Deckert.

He lives on through his wife, Jeannie; two sons and their wives, Chris and Melissa, and Rick and Saffron; six grandchildren, Theodore, Evelyn, Alyx, Josh, Matilda, and Gracie; and four brothers, Rick, Frank, Bob, and Tom and their wives.

A celebration of life will be held in October with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to find your peace in nature and to remember Ron in every deer you see.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Watkins of DeFuniak Springs.
