Robert Lewis Obituary

Robert Wayne Lewis, known to all simply as Wayne, passed away on December 24, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida, at the age of 82. A longtime resident of Destin, Florida, Wayne lived a life marked by bold choices, hard work, deep love, and unforgettable stories.

Born on March 24, 1943, in Augusta, Georgia, Wayne grew up with a fierce independence that would define the rest of his life. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, a chapter of his life that shaped his discipline, confidence, and enduring sense of loyalty.

Wayne was many things to many people: a sport-fishing angler who respected the sea, a natural storyteller who could hold a room spellbound, a mighty man with a larger-than-life presence, a lover and a fighter who never backed down from life or its challenges. He was widely respected as a successful restaurateur and businessman, known for his drive, vision, and willingness to take risks across many ventures.

True to his nature, Wayne lived on his own terms. He did it his way—without apology, without regret, and without leaving anything on the table. As he often proved by example, “Wayne wasn’t cheated by life—he got his money’s worth”.

Wayne was married in Destin, Florida, to his beloved wife, Marlaina Ginger Lewis (Steele), with whom he shared companionship, love, and laughter.

Wayne leaves behind a legacy of strength, independence, generosity, and stories that will be told for years to come. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Marlaina Ginger Lewis; stepdaughters, Emilou Harper Zion and Hudson Elizabeth Zion; brother, Dave Lewis; sister, Bonnie Bishop; niece, Heather Bishop Bell; and nephew, Jason Bishop.
