Rachel Burgess, loyal and loving wife of thirty-two years to Mike Burgess, and daughter of Stephen and Deborah Havens, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025, at the age of 51; after a well-fought battle with cancer. Rachel lived a life guided by her strong faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Rachel graduated from Washington Senior High School in 1991. She continued her education later in life, earning an Associate of Nursing degree from Southern State Community College in 2011, followed by a Bachelor's degree from Mt. Carmel College of Nursing in 2019. Lastly, in 2022, she earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from Franklin University. She built a rewarding career in Ohio and Florida where she worked selflessly to serve others. Colleagues remember her professionalism, dedication, and positive influence she had in her workplace.
Beyond her professional life, Rachel was known for her infectious smile, warmth, generosity, and kindness to everyone she met. She had a special gift for making people feel welcomed and valued. Many will remember her for her thoughtful conversations and her genuine interest in others' well-being. Rachel loved sharing her faith with others which brought her much comfort and direction in her own life.
Friends will remember Rachel's practical approach to life. She was someone you could always count on for honest advice, delivered with compassion. Her home was a gathering place where many found friendship and support through both good times and challenges.
In addition to her husband and parents, Rachel is survived by her children: son, Levi (Alexa) and daughter, Gabrielle (Charlie) Burgess, Beth (Kevin) Mulvaney and Michael Burgess; her mother-in-law, Carolyn Burgess; and her cherished grandchildren, Bentley, Landon, Kinleigh, and Declan. She also leaves behind siblings; Brandi (Jason) Funderburg and Ben (Melissa) Havens; as well as nieces and nephews, Maizy, Mitchell, Margo, Hunter, and River. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Louis Burgess, and her grandson, Cameron. Rachel will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and coworkers.
Those who knew Rachel take comfort in her firm belief in a future where, as the Bible promises, "death will be no more." This hope sustained her throughout her life and now comforts those who miss her.
