R.V. Burch, age 102, of Laurel Hill, Florida, passed from this life peacefully at his home Tuesday, April 20, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born July 25, 1918 in Florala, Alabama to William and Elizabeth Hughes Burch. He drove a truck for a Citrus Co-Op in Winter Garden, Florida for over 30 years. When he retired, he moved to Laurel Hill, Florida and built his home in the rural setting. The way he viewed it, working in his vegetable garden was a more productive pleasure than work and really enjoyed growing sugar cane to make his own sweet syrup and growing his own corn to make fresh ground meal. He was still physically able to drive the tractor around his home place when he was 100 years old. In fact, four days before he passed, (96 days before his 103rd birthday) he told his family he needed to go buy fuel for the tractor because there was a lot of work that needed to be done. R.V. believed everyone should stay active and not sit around idle all day.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; and two sons, Davis Lavon and Edgar Lamar Burch.
R.V. is survived by one son, Bruce Burch (Karen); two daughters, Mildred Faye Roberg (Robert) and Beverly Forrester (Tim); ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 beginning at 11:00 a.m.at the Community Holiness Church in DeFuniak Spring, Florida
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home and Crematory of DeFuniak.
