Otto Francisco Barreto, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, and unwavering devotion to those he cherished most.
Born in Perico, a small town in Matanzas, Cuba, Otto carried with him a deep sense of pride for his heritage throughout his life. With courage and determination, he made the difficult decision to leave his homeland of Cuba and bring his beloved wife and two young sons to the United States in pursuit of a better life and greater opportunities. Through hard work, sacrifice, and dedication, he built the future he dreamed of for his family.
Otto loved his family fiercely and deeply. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose greatest joy came from seeing his loved ones thrive. His home was a place of warmth and hospitality, and there was always a seat at his dinner table for anyone who needed one. Family, friendship, and community were at the heart of everything he did.
A lifelong student of history, Otto had a passion for learning, reading, and conversation. He could often be found discussing world history, current affairs, and the events shaping the world with anyone willing to listen. His curiosity, wisdom, and strong convictions made him both a captivating storyteller and a respected voice among family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marta Nereyra Barreto; his sons, Jorge Luis Barreto (Barbara) and Miguel Angel Barreto (Lesa); and his cherished grandchildren, Nathalie Marie Barreto Morelli (Robert) and Nicholas Martin Barreto.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, father, sister, and his grandfather, Panchito, with whom he is now reunited.
Otto's legacy lives on through the values he instilled in all of us: strength, loyalty, resilience, and a deep commitment to family and hard work. He will be remembered as a steadfast protector of his family and friends, a man who always stood tall for those he loved.
His strength, integrity, generosity, and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Though he will be deeply missed, his love, lessons, stories, and examples will continue to guide his family for generations to come.
