Nancy Weldie Righter Obituary

Nancy Jane Weldie Righter, 89, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on August 25, 1935, Nancy was the daughter of the late Harry Chester Weldie and Isabel Irwin Weldie. She grew up in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Conshohocken High School, class of 1953, where she met the love of her life, Paul Dunleavy Righter, III. Nancy and Paul married on September 3, 1955 and remained married for 51 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, whom died in 2006; and her son, Christopher Mark Righter, whom died in 1963.

Over the years, Nancy and Paul lived in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and in East Windsor and Mahwah, New Jersey, until they finally settled in a community they loved and called home, Ocean City, New Jersey. On retirement, they resettled in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where Nancy has lived for the past twenty-one years.

Nancy was a devoted homemaker, raising three children and creating a loving home everywhere they lived. She was a caring mother and friend, and has maintained friendships with many around the country. In her early years, she was an avid reader, and in her later years you could always find her with a puzzle book in her hand, but her biggest passion was the beach. It didn’t matter what time of year, or what the weather looked like, if there was an opportunity to go to the beach, she’d do it. Ocean City and Fort Walton Beach were ideal places for her to live.

She is lovingly remembered and survived by her children and their families: Cheryl Lynn Righter Hammer and her husband, John, Paul Dunleavy Righter, IV and his wife, Margie, and Jeffrey Robert Righter and his wife, Cathy. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Megan Righter Locke (Matt) and Matthew Paul Righter (Kristin); two great grandchildren, Michael and Benjamin; as well as brothers, Harry Weldie (Marjorie) and Robert Weldie (Theresa); along with beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members whose lives she touched with warmth and affection.

Nancy loved the Lord. Early in her married life she belonged to the King of Prussia Presbyterian Church, and after relocating to Florida, she attended The Church at Shalimar. Nancy always had a kind word for everyone, and even during this trying time she never complained about anything. She will always be remembered as one of the sweetest people you will ever meet.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Church at Shalimar on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. and a memorial will be held in New Jersey on Thursday, June 12, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nancy’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
