Nancy Jane Bueby, 90, of Sandestin, Florida passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at her home at Brookdale of Destin, surrounded by her family and all the staff that loved and cared for her.

Nancy was born on March 29, 1933, in Flint, Michigan and met her husband, Jack Bueby when she was 16 in Flint; they were married on January 31, 1953. They started their lives together in Ann Arbor, Michigan until moving back to Flint, Michigan. They moved on to Davison and raised their five children. Nancy went back to college; all the while raising her family and received her Bachelors and master’s in education from Eastern Michigan University. She had a very rewarding career being a teacher that specialized in speech pathology and learning disabilities, but her love was early five education, which she retired from Davison Public Schools in the late 1980’s when they moved to Petoskey, until their final move to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida in 2010. They were married for over seventy beautiful years and Jack told the story that Nancy must have loved him a lot, because they were stranded on their wedding night, on the way back to Ann Arbor with their car broke down in Fenton Auto Sales parking lot on a cold January night!!

Nancy loved to bake cookies and would always send her children and grandchildren her special Christmas cookie packages. She loved her travels to Jekyll Island, Georgia  and summered in Bay View, Michigan, until they could no longer travel that distance. She also loved to paint, sew and was an avid reader. She would show up at your house with paint brush and paint can in her hand and say …” let’s make hay now!!”

She is survived by her husband, Jack Bueby of Sandestin, Florida; her children, John Bueby of Punta Gorda, Florida, David (Kay) Bueby of Fenton, Michigan, Mark (Kim) Bueby of Boyne City, Michigan, and Jayne Smith of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; and her sister, Bette Knutson of Largo, Florida.

She loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Nicolas (Kristen) Bueby of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Justin (Lisa) Smith and children, Mason, Ava, Jett, Alex and Bella of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, James (Anna) Bueby and children, Taylor, Jayce and Noah of Waco, Texas, Courtney (Tyler) Barrett and children, MaCarthy and Penelope of Traverse City, Michigan, Megan (Jeff) Guntzviller and children, Steven, Sullivan, Jack and Bode of Traverse City, Michigan, Matthew (Kayla) Bueby and Cameron of Fenton, Michigan, Christopher (Samantha) Bueby and Owen of Williamsburg, Michigan, Brooke (Sean) Gee and children, Logan and Scarlett of Petoskey, Michigan, Allison (Stephen) Caldwell and children, Stevie and Addy of Cheboygan, Michigan, Emily (Justin) Hall and Levi of Petoskey, Michigan, Madison (Chance) Smith and children, Aubrey, Aurora and Ameila of Afton, Michigan, and Cameron Smith of Cheboygan, Michigan. Additionally, Nancy leaves behind Sean (Catherine) Finnegan and children, Eleanor, Johanna, Charlotte and Hennessy of Traverse City, Michigan, Rachell Allman of Petoskey, Michigan and Miranda Runyan and daughter, Paisley of Bellaire, Michigan.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Michele Johnson; son-in-law, Steven Smith; daughter-in-law, Karen Bueby; great grandchild, Lenox Gee; and her brother, David Roberts.

There are no plans for a memorial currently.
