Monica Hierseman, 94 years old, living in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Miramar Beach, Florida.
Monica was born in Santiago, Chile, on September 11, 1928, the daughter of Belisario Enriquez and Bertina Prado. Monica was the widow of Wayne Hierseman, to whom she was married for fifty-two years.
Monica and Wayne met in Santiago, Chile, married, and moved to the United States in 1978, when Wayne retired from Exxon Corporation after working in Central and South America for twenty-five years. They moved back to Wayne’s hometown of Davenport, Iowa, where Monica began her career as an antique dealer.
Monica was a loving mother who deeply cared for her children and never stopped working to take care of her family. She enjoyed sewing some of her own clothes, getting suntanned when she was younger, cooking and feeding her family, drinking her favorite TANG drink and Coca Cola, going to the beauty parlor, going to estate sales, eating out at restaurants, watching her news channel, and collecting custom jewelry and antiques.
She very much enjoyed her very close group of friends in Davenport, Iowa, who were part of her family which includes Melba, Maricarmen, Mirtha, Marinieves, Maria C., Ana Maria, Mayra, Monica, Dinorah, Rosa, Iris, Carmin, Karen, as well as the company, friendship, and care of her dear colleague, Randy Hyde.
Other special friends away from Davenport include Rosario and Sharon, and friends who preceded her including Shirley, Ruth, Toya, and Violeta.
Monica loved her dachshund, Brownie, who came from Central America where the family lived for four years. She loved peonies and used to say she would dream she could fly. She deeply enjoyed life and, if given another chance, she said she would not change a thing.
Monica was a devout catholic and attended Lady of Victory Catholic Church, while living in Davenport, Iowa.
