Mary Jane Simpler

Mary Jane Simpler, age 73, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025, at her residence.  She was born March 2, 1952, in DeFuniak Springs to the late William “Bill” Gordon Nelson and Minnie Lee (Devine) Nelson.  In Mary Jane’s spare time, she enjoyed quilting, gardening and most of all spending time with loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William “Bill” Gordon Nelson and Minnie Lee (Devine) Nelson; one daughter, Misty Simpler; and three brothers, David Nelson, Joe Dan Nelson, and Billy Nelson.

Mary Jane is survived by her loving husband, Roy W. Simpler; two sons, Greg Floyd and Roy D. Simpler (Nancy); two grandchildren, Clayton Simpler (Daisy), and Trevor Simpler; three great grandchildren, Serenity, Waylon, and Stetson; one brother, Gordon Nelson (Carol); and many other family and friends.

A special thank you to Emerald Coast Hospice for their love and dedication in our family's time of need.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, beginning at 11 a.m.  A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, make checks payable to Emerald Coast Hospice and they can be dropped off at or mailed to 550 W Redstone Avenue #310, Crestview, Florida 32536.
