Mary Ellen Smith

Mary Ellen Smith, age 70, peacefully went to be with Jesus surrounded by family in the comfort of her home January 10, 2022. Mary was born in Florala, Alabama in 1951 and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and granny. Mary loved her Lord Jesus, and her family was everything to her. Gardening was her favorite hobby and often spoke how she felt closer to God while doing it. She was a talented writer and very creative. Mary always looked for ways to give to her family and as well as others. Those who knew her best, knew that she was a very patient, quiet, eccentric person that thought outside the box.  She was far from ordinary. Although she struggled in her body for years, she managed to keep a smile on her face and a positive outlook on life. Mary was a warrior at heart.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert Smith, and her dearly loved son, Jason Smith.

Mary is survived by one son, Jacob Smith; one daughter, Julia Taylor; grandchildren, Taylor Hines, Hunter Smith, Allison Hines, Joshua Smith, Samuel Smith, Morgan Trapp, Matthew Smith, Zachary Smith, Xandria Smith, and Donovan Smith; one sister, Elaine Arcabascio; and one brother, Robert Cox.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14, 2022 at Community Holiness Church, 971 Live Oak Avenue West, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435, beginning at 10 a.m. with Pastor Harold Taylor officiating. A time of visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Committal services will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
