Marvin Enloe McCain

Marvin Enloe McCain was born on November 9, 1923, in Clay County, Alabama, to Reuben Glover and Eliza Ann Martha Dora Clementine Martin McCain. Marvin died on June 19, 2022, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Lenda Ann Haynes McCain; children, Dr. Eleanor Anne McCain and husband, John Jinks, and Allen Haynes McCain and wife, Laura Hauser McCain; grandchildren, Elizabeth Jinks Stewart and husband, Brandon Scott Stewart, Anna Ross Jinks, Kaylor Allen McCain and wife, Sarah Montgomery McCain, and Porter Michael McCain; great-grandchildren, George Marvin, Harrison Russell Stewart, Ruth Benson, and Jill Enloe McCain; and several nieces and nephews. Marvin was the youngest of nine children.

Following graduation from Lineville High School in 1942, Marvin entered the United States Army serving his country in Ireland, Scotland, England, France, and Germany during World War II. He closed his military service as part of General George Patton’s 3rd Army.

After his release from military duty in 1946, Marvin enrolled at the Alabama College for Women as one of the 32 veterans given this privilege; it was here he met his wife. After one year, they transferred to Peabody/Vanderbilt University, and he graduated with a BA in economics and an MA in School Administration in 1953.

Lenda and Marvin moved to Panama City, Florida, where Marvin began his long career in education at Jinks Junior High School as assistant principal, then at Callaway Grammar School as principal. Later, he was appointed as assistant superintendent of Bay County Schools. The highlight and eventual close of his career in education came as the founding principal of Mosley High School. After retiring, he developed Mowat Highlands and several other commercial enterprises.

Marvin cared about his community and remained active throughout his life. He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church. He also served in various civic positions, and was active in the Lynn Haven Rotary, where he received the prestigious Paul Harris award; as well as, the Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and VFW.

Marvin was an avid golfer and had three holes-in-one during his life. He bagged a turkey at the age of 91 and landed a 14-pound bass at the age of 93. For his children and grandchildren, he was a walking masterclass on the golf course, the field, and the boat. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, and he never met a stranger.

Marvin will be interred at the family farm in Ashland, Alabama, during a private family service.
