Marjorie Marie Norton passed away on July 3, 2025, while vacationing in Bergen, Norway, doing what she loved most; traveling the world with her family. She was 82 years young.
Born in New Albany, Mississippi on January 8, 1943, Margie spent her early years moving frequently as the daughter of a military family, a lifestyle she fondly described as being a “military brat.” That adventurous spirit never left her, and her passion for exploring new places would become one of the great joys of her life.
Margie married the love of her life, Franklin G. Norton, on May 1, 1969. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, laughter, and family. Since 1978, she made her home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. While in Fort Walton Beach, she worked for many years for the Senior Mentor program out of Hurlburt Air Force Base. She thoroughly loved this job working with retired generals and staff. Even though she loved this part of Florida, her heart was often somewhere far across the globe, from the cobblestone streets of Europe to the deserts of the Middle East, the coasts of Australia, and the rich history of China.
She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Franklin. She is survived by her children, Julie Martin (James) and Jeff Norton (Allison); and her seven cherished grandchildren: Ryan Nicole (20), Walker (18), Rowan (17), Amelia (15), James Turner (13), and twins Austin and Elliott (12).
Margie was a deeply loved wife, mother, and grandmother whose warmth, wit, and boundless curiosity touched all who knew her. Her legacy of love and adventure will live on in the hearts and travels of her family.
A celebration of her life will be held on August 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Simon’s on the Sound.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to a travel-based educational foundation or simply take a trip somewhere new in her honor, and think of Margie when you do.
