Maria del Consuelo Latour Burgess passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026 at her residence. Consuelo was born in Mexico, August 16, 1940 to Carlos Latour Oronoz and Librada Puentes Latour. At the age of three years old, her parents moved to Mexico City, where she grew up and attended school. She was the fifth girl in a family of seven girls. Two of them passed away when they were infants. Her parents were devoted Catholics, and they instilled in her a deep and profound love for Jesus. Consuelo attended school in Mexico City. She started learning to speak English in high school. After that, she continued her studies at a college and in a British Institute in Mexico City. Later on, she married the late Thomas Gay Burgess. She met him in a pen pal correspondence magazine. After they met, they continued to write to each other and later on married in Mexico City. They were happily married for 39 years and had two children, Stephen and Sandra. Consuelo worked as a legal secretary and as a secretary for the State of Florida and later on as an insurance agent for many years. She was also actively involved in organizations in the community, and after her retirement, she served as a volunteer in a local hospital. In her spare time, she enjoyed writing, playing the piano, and attending various social gatherings at her local community center. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her precious granddaughters, Tahlia, Elyza, and Lydia.
Consuelo is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Burgess; parents, Carlos and Librada; sisters Lupita and Coco.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Burgess and his wife Jamie of Oneonta, Alabama and Sandra Bretschneider and her husband Adam of Pensacola Florida; three granddaughters, Tahlia, Elyza, and Lydia; two sisters, Rosi Troyo and Lourdes Riojas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Olive Baptist Church, 1836 East Olive Road, Pensacola, Florida 32514 beginning at 10:00 a.m. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Beulah Anna Baptist Church, 1334 Coursey Road, Westville, Florida 32464 at 3:00 p.m.
