Maria G. Shover, age 85, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, died at 9:30 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2024, at her home surrounded by family and friends. Maria was a dedicated Christian, mother, and grandma. She was raised in West Virginia. She married Ronald Shover in Washington, D.C., and together they moved to Florida to raise their family. She was an active community member, participating in local organizations such as her church, Girl Scouts, TOPS, and the Red Hat Club. She loved arts and crafts and sewing. Maria was very outgoing and talkative, always trying to put a smile on everyone's face. She will be dearly missed, but is now home with the Lord Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Clara Forbes of Logan, West Virginia; and her brother, Gordon Forbes.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Ronald Shover; sister, Caroline Forbes; one daughter, Veronica Ellis and husband Allen of Virginia; two sons, Harold Shover and wife Gwendolyn, and Harry Shover of DeFuniak Springs; four grandchildren, Adrianna Shover, Laramie Shover, and Brittany Shover of DeFuniak Springs, and Stephanie Ellis of Virginia; and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Synergy Health Care and Gentiva Hospice for their outstanding care.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida. A time of visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Sandy Creek Baptist Church will be hosting family and friends in their fellowship hall following the service.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home and Crematory of DeFuniak Springs.
