Margaret Marie Holley Alford, age 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at her home in Darlington, Florida. She was born April 16, 1928 in Florala, Alabama to the late Noah T. and Myrtle May McAdams Holley. After raising her five children, Margaret worked for the Walton County School District from 1965 until 1993 as a school secretary and aide. Following retirement, she remained busy doing what she loved best: spending time with family (especially grandchildren), friends, and reading. Margaret was an accomplished seamstress and cook, especially cakes and pies. She was a loving, supportive mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will truly be missed by family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-nine years, William A. (Bill) Alford; son-in-law, Bruce Carver; eight brothers, Hubert Thed, Noah Sherman, Billy Mac, Bobby Ray, Ralph Wayne, Rondall Neal, Charles Daniel, and Kenneth Barry; and two sisters, Mary Lucille Bell and Ellen Corinne Farrell.
Margaret is survived by five children, Carolyn Marie Alford Commander and husband Carl, Robert David and wife Karen, Sharon Ann Alford Carver, Douglas Alexander and wife Sonya, and William Gregory and wife Juanita; grandchildren, William Commander (Donna), Megan Bivens (Jesse), Bobby Alford (Gina), Elizabeth Alford (Jason), Allie Alford, Hayden Alford, and Parish Gratz; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Charlotte Bivens, William and Zach Franklin, Vivian and Cora Gratz, Andrew and Aubrey Franklin, Ryan Tersegno, and Megan Adams; great-great-grandchildren, Ava and Tripp Adams and Evan, Ian, and Auyrn Tersegno, and one sister, Linda Dianne Brown.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1717 Oak Grove Road, Westville, Florida 32464 beginning at 11:00 a.m. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow in the Alford Family Cemetery.
