Marcia Rawson Cormier, age 93, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, a native of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, passed away at her home on February 24, 2025. She was born in Uxbridge on July 9, 1931, to Jefferson and Pearl (Taft) Rawson and graduated from Uxbridge High School in 1948. She completed nurses’ training at Milford Hospital in 1951 and became an RN. Marcia was the beloved wife of Arthur R. Cormier (deceased 2006), whom she married on February 23, 1952. Marcia lived in several other states during her life including Indiana, New York, Texas, Maryland, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Arizona, and Florida. Her long and varied nursing career included fourteen years at the former Fogarty Memorial Hospital in North Smithfield, Rhode Island during the 1960’s-1970’s, followed by several years at Milford Hospital in Milford, Massachusetts. In retirement she also served as nurse at a Navajo Christian mission school in Arizona. Marcia was a member of the Glendale Presbyterian Church and was an active Christian who loved reading her Bible. She loved the beach and was an expert swimmer. Marcia also loved to read and play cards, and her brownies were famous.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by both her sisters, Deborah Howe (2017) and Barbara Hoglund (2007); her son, Robert A. Cormier of North Smithfield, Rhode Island (2022); and her daughter, Mary Jane Cormier of DeFuniak Springs, Florida (2023).
Marcia is survived by two daughters, Barbara Cormier of Niceville, Florida and Laura Warmbrod of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Tanya Hall and Pearl Bourquin of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Hope Cormier of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, Joshua Cormier of Waltham, Massachusetts, and Cheyenne Stover of Hudsonville, Michigan. She also leaves six great grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
