In Loving Memory of Marc William Skarupa

Marc William Skarupa, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, on the morning of June 17, 2026. A beloved father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend, Marc touched countless lives with his warm smile, generous spirit, and unique sense of humor. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Marc was born on November 17, 1953, in Torrington, Connecticut, to the late George Andrew Skarupa and Patricia Herbert Skarupa Gold. Though born in Connecticut, Marc proudly considered himself a true Miami kid, growing up during an era defined by peace, love, and adventure. He was a proud Florida State University Seminole and carried a lifelong passion for travel and exploration.

As a skilled building contractor, Marc worked hard to provide for his family and, alongside his beloved wife, Fern, built a beautiful life in sunny Destin, Florida. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

Marc was preceded in death by his parents; his devoted wife, Fern Skarupa; and his son, Jason Edward Zabel.

He is survived by his son, Cody Skarupa; daughter-in-law, Corissa Skarupa; and his two cherished grandsons, Otto and Noah Skarupa, who brought immense joy to his life.

Marc’s greatest joys were outdoors, where he loved “soaking up the sun,” as he often said. Whether he was losing golf balls on the course, wade fishing in the bay, snorkeling at the jetties, or simply enjoying a walk along the beach, he embraced every opportunity to enjoy God’s creation and the beauty of life.

Above all else, Marc was a devoted father and grandfather. He made countless sacrifices to be present for every practice, game, track meet, and milestone. His unwavering support and dedication shaped the lives of those he loved most. Those same values of commitment, kindness, and love were passed down to both his son and his grandsons, whom he adored beyond measure.

Marc lived by a set of simple yet powerful principles that guided his life and inspired those around him:

“You can make the hard choice or the easy choice, and that choice is yours.”

“What matters most is what you do when no one is watching.”

“Kill them with kindness.”

“Be friends with everyone.”

“You’re not promised tomorrow, so make today the best day ever.”

These words were more than sayings. They were the foundation of how Marc lived each day. To know Marc was to love Marc. His legacy of kindness, friendship, laughter, and love will continue to live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind and the example he set living life to the fullest. Marc’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved him, and his spirit will forever be found in the sunshine, on the water, and in every act of kindness shared in his memory. God rest his soul.
