Major Henry Steidl USAF, Ret. Obituary

MAJOR (RET) HENRY STEIDL 1931 – 2018

Retired Air Force Major Henry B. Steidl, age 87, passed away on October 3, 2018 at his home of 46 years in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  Henry was preceded by his wife of 43 years Blanche (née Cardillo). His surviving family members include his second wife of 7 years, Mai Mendoza, daughter Michelle (Stephen) Moore of Lutz, FL, son Eric (Diana) Steidl of Severna Park, MD, daughter Denise (Kent) Spicer of Lutz, FL, his six beloved grandchildren, family in North Dakota including a sister, brother-in-law, brother and sister-in-law, family in New Mexico including a brother and sister-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Henry lived a remarkable life. A true patriot, he was a member of the original Air Commandos who trained at Fort Walton Beach in the 1960s, and as a combat pilot he proudly defended his country in several wars and conflicts. Upon retiring from active duty, Henry and his wife Blanche began a small construction business recognized for seamless remodeling and attention to detail. Later in life, he lived each day quietly and contently, attending Mass in the morning, gardening during the day, or wood-crafting personalized gifts for his grandchildren. He often spent his mornings visiting area hospitals, nursing homes, or private residences serving as a Eucharistic Minister for those unable to attend Mass. He enjoyed socializing and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and The Sons of Italy. He enjoyed his evening glass of wine and reading before bed. Henry was a jovial individual who had a passion for life. In his lifetime he was a knowledgeable farmer, accomplished student, skilled pilot, career military officer, and respected business owner. Yet, more importantly, he was a man who cherished others and left an indelible impact on those around him as a devout husband, father, grandfather, and reliable friend. Henry devoted his life to his family and his church; he was never happier than when he was spending time with them.
