Lyla Brandon Obituary

THANK YOU, MOM!

We, Ronnie (Linda), Gina, and Bettye (Rick), were so very fortunate to have our mom, Aileen Brandon, in our lives! Our youngest sister, Alyson, preceded Mom in her death.

Mom, 97, was born and raised on a farm in rural, northern Alabama, where she loved riding her horse, Prince; going fishing; and cheerleading throughout high school. Her mother taught her to sew on a pedal sewing machine, how to cook and can, and how to do the chores related to farm life.

In her day, social events centered around the home and the community. Beds were removed and square dances were held in homes, complete with musicians. Women would sit around a wooden frame and quilt as they socialized with each other. Beautiful quilts were produced with lots of love and care!

After high school, Mom worked at Brookley Air Force Base, in Mobile, where she became a Rosie the Riveter during World War II. After the war, she and dad married and raised us young’uns.

Our mom loved people and loved her friends! Her interests included traveling, reading, playing dominoes and bingo!

Mom moved to Holley in the mid 1980’s and then later to Navarre. She loved this area and was amazed at the growth. A friend had the first grocery store in Navarre-before Winn Dixie came to town! She participated in many community events; including working during the elections, and volunteering at Hurlburt’s Thrift Store.

Mom’s legacy will live on in her six grandchildren (Jennifer, Melanie, Joshua, Tina, Matt, and Noah), and her two great grandchildren (Jessica and Violet). Thank you, Mom, for loving us, and being your amazing self!
