Luther "Sport" Junior Ellison

God saw that I was getting tired, and an earthly cure was not to be, so He put His arms around me, and whispered, “Come to Me.”

Luther Junior Ellison, 71, also known as “Sport” by his family and friends, of Mary Esther, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. 

He was born to the late Dorothy Ellison and James Curry in Andalusia, Alabama. Luther was a strong-minded child who attended public school in Andalusia, Covington County. He aspired to move out of Alabama and see what life had to offer, so as a young adult he moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Luther was a hard-working brick mason. He was often referred to as the “best!” He took great pride in keeping his only sister’s yard nicely manicured and he built a beautiful brick mailbox in front of her house. Luther will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.

Luther was in a long-time relationship with Agnes Stallworth, who was by his side until the end.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his most dedicated and loving sister, Mary Mercer-Jordan of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; two Aunts of Andalusia, Alabama, Lilly Mary Sims and Mary Lou Ellison; nephews, Eric (Trine) of Riverview, Florida, Charles (Frances) of Toms River, New Jersey, and Mark of Crestview, Florida; nieces, Jackie (Frank) of Marietta, Georgia and Charlene (Mark) of Hope Mills, North Carolina; bonus niece, Karen Mercer of Brandon, Florida; as well as great nieces, nephews, and cousins and a host of family and friends! He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be officiated by Pastor Antoine Brown at Davis Watkins Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road NE, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
