Lura Spears Zerick, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully May 28, 2025, at the age of 94. She is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She was born December 1, 1930, to Benjamin H. and Daisy Bostic Spears in Leonia Florida. At the age of four, she started elementary school and finished Leonia High at the age of 16 as the class Valedictorian. Lura was proud of her roots and heritage in Westville, Florida and Geneva, Alabama, and she invested her heart and creative spirit into her community. A true storyteller, Lura loved lifting others' spirits through her writing and music. When she was not reading scripture or a novel, Lura could be found gardening, cooking, or enjoying God's beauty in nature. Lura touched the lives of many through her enduring strength, compassion, and unwavering spirit. She was known for her warm smile and willingness to share the love of Jesus with those around her.
She is predeceased by her daughter, Lisa Zerick; three brothers, Wilmer, Cawthon, and Hamp Spears; and four sisters, Dahlia Harrellson, Gladys Burgess, Willie Bell Galloway, and Eula Pearl Hannah.
Lura is survived by her loving family, her sons, Fred Zerick and wife, Jacquelyn, and Jon Zerick; her daughters, Joy Bush and Toni Zerick; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, whom will carry her memory and legacy forward with love and gratitude.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Beulah Anna Baptist Church, 1334 Coursey Road, Westville, Florida 32464 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
