Louis G. Dodd, Jr., age 82, of Crestview, Florida passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his residence with his wife Sherry by his side. He was born March 23, 1943 in Jasper, Alabama to the late Martha Clark and Louis G. Dodd, Sr. He married Sherry Linton from DeFuniak Springs, Florida June 5, 2004, in Crestview. After serving four years in the United States Air Force, he worked for Gulf Power, retiring after thirty-two years. Louis was a man of many talents. Not only did he create songs, but he controlled the sound system for local bands and many well remembered bands: The Supremes, Molly Hatchet, Wet Willie, and the Tams to name a few. Louis assisted with the sound for many festivals in the area and helped start the Crestview Walk for Life, which has continued to the present. Not only was he gifted in the music field, but also as an author, writing and publishing many children’s books throughout the years. He loved animals! All the cats he cared for became like children to him, surrounding him throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy Dodd; sister Pam Hudson; brother-in-law, Jack Linton, and nephew, Jessie Hudson.
Louis is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Sherry; son, Jason Dodd and wife Mandy; grandsons, Dyllan and Kyle; granddaughter, Hope; brother, Clark ( Mickey) Dodd and wife Anna Mae; sister, Nan Gulsby and husband Allen; sister-in-law, Vickie Mazerat; brother-in-law, Charles Linton and wife Sherry; nieces, Lisa Beasley (Ray), and Pamela Banks; nephews, Kelly Hudson, Stephen and William Gulsby; great-niece, Nikki Merritt; great-nephew, Clinton Hudson; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. Louis was loved and will be truly missed.
A time of visitation will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Crestview Memorial, 492 East Pine Avenue, Crestview, Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 24, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 550 Adams Drive Crestview, Florida. Interment will be Monday, October 27, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida.
