Lillian Campbell Obituary

On Monday afternoon, September 6, 2021, with her kids by her side, Lillian Elizabeth Campbell, age 91, earned her eternal wings. She was born June 18, 1930 in Argyle, Florida to the late Salathiel and Willie Crosby Jackson. She accepted Christ at an early age joining the New Bethel A.M.E. church in Argyle, Florida, where she held numerous positions, culminating as Treasurer, until her passing. After graduating from Tivoli High School in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, she attended Pensacola Jr. College and then Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida. She later married the love of her life Alva O. Campbell (who preceded her in death). They were married for over 50 years. They both developed a strong desire to give back to the local community and felt the education system was the best way to do so. For over 40 years, she served as the Administrative Assistant first at Tivoli High School, her Alma mater, where she graduated class Valedictorian and was voted Miss Tivoli in 1946, and later at Walton Middle School.  During that time period she mentored thousands of DeFuniak Springs students as they maneuvered their way through Elementary, Middle, and High School. In addition to serving in the education system, another joy in her life was teaming with her husband to serve as The First Lady Mayor Pro Tempore and City Councilman for the city of DeFuniak Springs, Florida for 28 continuous years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, exhibiting her culinary skills, and was fondly labeled as a professional shopper.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ida Wallace of Argyle Florida; and three brothers, Alonzo Jackson (Ora Lee-deceased) of Tampa, Florida, Edward (Iris) Jackson of Atwater, California, and Salathiel “SL” (Ruby Lee) Jackson of Tampa, Florida.

Lillian leaves to treasure her precious memory two daughters, Deedra (John) Stewart of DeFuniak Springs, and Candida Harris of DeFuniak Springs; two sons, Frederick (Debra) Campbell of Madison Alabama and Todd (Michelle) Campbell of DeFuniak Springs. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  She is survived by her sister Delores Owens (Leamon-deceased) of Killeen, Texas; three godchildren, Sharon (Wallace) James, Tonya (Barge) Edington, and Steven Neal; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many life-long friends.

A time of visitation will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be private.
