Lewis Eugene Gomillion, age 73, a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed from this world to a better place Friday, September 18, 2020, joining his parents and first sweetheart, Margaret, in Heaven. He was born August 7, 1947 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to Cecil and Thelma Jackson Gomillion.
After graduating from Paxton High School, he joined the United States Navy, proudly serving for fourteen years. After his discharge, he followed in his father’s footsteps becoming a carpenter. Gene loved to go fishing, enjoyed reading westerns, and was one of the best horseshoe players in the county.
He is preceded in death by his parents and former wife, Margaret Gomillion.
Gene leaves behind two brothers, Danny Gomillion, who was also his caregiver, and Larry (Pam) Gomillion; two sisters, Alice (James) Jordan, and Deborah (Lynn) Alford; three daughters, (the twins) Elizabeth (Willis) Jordan, Sharon (David) French, and Lisa (late husband Dewey) Adams; two sons, Chad and Michael; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 2, 2020, at New Harmony Baptist Church, 2281 County Highway 2A, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, beginning at 11 a.m., with Brother Jeff Cain officiating. Please join us in celebrating his life.
