Leroy Price, age 80, of Crestview, Florida, formally of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away Friday March 27, 2020. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, February 24, 1940. Lee graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School in 1958. Upon completing High School, Lee joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was Catholic by faith and served as an assistant to the Base Chaplain. While stationed in California, he met and married Martha Lequeta (Martie) Born. They had 59 years together and wanted it to last forever.
Lee was passionate in his career as a Detroit Fire Fighter and received a citation for the rescue of a child from a Thanksgiving morning fire. Lee was the Union Representative for the 5th Battalion of Detroit Fire Department. He was also a member of the Fire Department Clown Team, visiting children in hospitals as well as taking part in other Department functions. Leroy earned a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science while with the Fire Department. A duty related injury resulted in early retirement. The family relocated to Spring Hill, Florida in 1980 and then to Crestview, Florida in 2016.
Lee was an avid philatelist and spent hours working on his stamp collection. The daily newspaper always delivered a crossword puzzle to work with morning coffee and he made the most challenging jigsaw puzzles look easy.
Lee is survived by his wife, Martie; daughter, Cathy Jean Nelson, and husband Frank; daughter, Karen Marie Snyder; grandson, Keith William Snyder-Dyer, and husband Daniel; and an extended family through marriage.
Lee was preceeded in death by his parents, Bernard Stephen and Florence Mildred West Price; brother, Bernard Michael Price; and nephew, Ronald Michael Price.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Covenant Hospice of Crestview for all of their compassion and kindness over the last several weeks.
In accordance with his wishes, Lee is to be cremated with a Military Graveside Service at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society, Covenant Hospice or the SPCA in Leroy's honor.
