Leamon "Ross" Dannelley Obituary

Leamon “Ross” Dannelley, age 86, left his temporary home and met the Lord on March 8, 2025.  Ross was born September 27, 1938 in Samson, Alabama to Hosae Dannelley Jr. and Francis Smith Dannelley.  Ross was the eldest of four children.  He was Baptist by faith and a member of the Path of Grace Church of DeFuniak Springs, to which he loved all that attended and served the Lord.

Mr. Dannelley was employed by the Poultry Industry and retired after 47 years of employment.  After his retirement, he worked for the Council On Aging where he delivered meals to the elderly… some of which were younger than him.  It was nothing to see him at one of his clients’ homes walking the family dog, getting their mail, cutting their grass or even making a baker of biscuits right in their own kitchen.  Ross loved to help people in more ways than you can dare to count.

His greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They affectionately called him Paw Paw.  He enjoyed going to softball, baseball and football games to watch and cheer on his grands.   Mr. Dannelley was well known county-wide for his compassionate nature.  He never met a stranger and if you didn’t know him, you did after a 5-minute conversation.

Mr. Dannelley was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 53 years, Ellen Jeanette Dannelley; sister, Bennie Merl Crosby; brother, Roy Dannelley; granddaughter, Lora Harrison; nephew, Doug Dannelley; and a nephew, who was like a son, Ricky Leddon.

Mr. Dannelley is survived by his daughters, Charlotte D. Rodgers and husband Rick and Michelle Whiddon and husband, Mike both of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; one sister, Linda Beagles and husband, Johnny; grandchildren, Shane Williams and wife, Hillary, Megan Warren, Lyndsey Rodgers, Joseph Warren and wife, Kansas; and special niece, Angie Leddon; great-grands, Jeremiah, Hannah, Tucker, Julian, Gabrielle, Grace, Skyler, Hayley, Bay, Cody, Cole, Caydee, Jade, Kaylei and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and one great-great nephew.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 beginning at 11 a.m. with Reverend David Wilson officiating.  A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.  Flowers are being accepted.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the family friends and Haigh Hill neighbors for their loving, caring support given to our family.  Those serving as pallbearers will be Chip Beagles, Ronny Crosby, Donny Crosby, Quint Smith, Julian Bartlett (great grand), Trever Fontenot, and Jeremiah Justice (great grand).

Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home.
