Kenneth Fraser Obituary

Kenneth James Fraser, 84, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, passed into the arms of the Lord on March 31, 2026, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Miramar Beach, Florida. Born on September 1,1941, in Brooklyn, New York, Kenneth was the beloved son of Mary Ceurvels Fraser and David Cameron Fraser. Though an only child, he was surrounded by a loving extended family and shared a close bond with his many aunts, uncles, and cousins, cherishing the time they spent together.

Ken graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School before attending the City College of New York, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force, where he was commissioned in December 1964.

On September 4, 1965, Ken married the love of his life, Anne Adams, in Mobile, Alabama. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to family.

During his distinguished military career, Ken trained at Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, followed by Navigator School and Electronic Warfare Officer training at Mather Air Force Base in California. From 1968 to 1971, he served as a navigator on B-52 aircraft. In 1971, he was deployed to Southeast Asia as an F-105 navigator and electronic warfare officer.

On his 90th mission, Ken’s aircraft was shot down over North Vietnam. He was captured and held as a prisoner of war for 13 months, from 1972 to 1973. For his service and sacrifice, Ken was awarded numerous honors, including the Prisoner of War Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the  Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart.

Reflecting on his captivity, Ken later wrote: “Looking back on my captivity, I would say that the thing that sustained me was knowing that I was not alone. When I first regained consciousness in Hanoi, I was in a cell by myself, but I was not alone. On the wall above the door, someone had scratched a cross. God was with me. The one who left the cross was with me. Before I was shot down, I was not a deeply religious person, but during my captivity, I became closer to God. Since my return, I have found and brought Jesus Christ into my life and have come to the realization that I am alive today because of His love. His Spirit lives today in each of us who let Him.”

He also wrote, “During my captivity, I developed a greater appreciation for this wonderful country of ours. I realized how much more the freedoms we enjoy in America mean to me, especially after being deprived of them.”

After returning from the war, Ken worked from 1973 to 1974 as an Electronic Warfare Test Engineer with the 3246th Test Wing at Eglin Air Force Base until his disability retirement from the Air Force in 1974. He then continued his service to his country as a Senior Electronic Warfare Engineer at Eglin Air Force Base from 1974 until his retirement in 2013.

Ken enjoyed spending time with his family, walking along the beach, boating, and playing golf with friends for as long as he was able. A longtime member of Immanuel Anglican Church, he served faithfully and found great strength in his faith and church community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Fraser. He is survived by his devoted wife, Anne; his sons, Stephen Michael Fraser of Santa Rosa Beach and Robert David Fraser of Crested Butte, Colorado; his daughter, Christine Fraser Teaney and her husband, Trip, of Greenville, North Carolina; his granddaughters, Cameron Teaney Dishman and her husband, Calen, of Bristol, Virginia, and Meredith Tate Teaney of Columbia, South Carolina; and his great-grandson, James Claude Dishman of Bristol, Virginia. Also remembered is Sheba, the family dog, the last of many beloved pets. His legacy of courage, faith, and love will live on in all who knew and loved him.
