Kathrine Ray Obituary

Kathrine Elizabeth Ray, age 91, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025.  She was born February 21, 1934 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to William Chat Holley and Maddie Ham. Kathrine lived a life defined by service, devotion, and quiet strength.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Ray, with whom she shared a love story that lasts through eternity; her infant daughter, Elizabeth; her parents; her brother, Jerome Holley; her sister, Mattie Bell Marler; and her grandson, Chase Ray.

She is survived by her son, Gilbert Ray, and his wife, Michele; her grandson, Hunter Ray, and his wife, Jami; her two great-granddaughters, Emery and Collins; her nieces, Regina, Teresa, and Cynthia; and her nephews, Ned and Richard.

Known affectionately as “Kaka” to many, Kathrine was the perfect example of a servant to others. Her life revolved around caring for her family and anyone else in need of a loving presence. She had a rare gift for making children feel safe, cared for, and spoiled, often stepping in wherever love and help were needed. For more than 20 years, she owned and operated Ray’s Nursery and Landscaping. She loved the outdoors and especially treasured time spent alongside her favorite people—running fox hounds, deer hunting, fishing and shrimping in the bay or up the river and even catching a crab or two in the Gulf. Kathrine was a woman of many talents. The food in Heaven got a little better on Monday when she arrived in the kitchen. She was famous for her hush puppies, perfectly made biscuits, fried chicken, pepper relish, and all the fresh vegetables and seafood anyone could want. Kathrine was a member of Heritage Church. Above all, Kathrine will be remembered for her kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she nurtured, the meals she shared, and the love she gave so freely.
