Katherine "Kate" Driggers Obituary

Katherine “Kate” Eggers Driggers, age 76, of Destin, FL passed away peacefully on
May 13, 2026 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Panama City. Kate is survived by her
husband, Art of 26 years; her sister, Donna Nichols and niece and nephews, Max, Stuart,
and Maury Nichols, and nephew, James Harris (Maria Flores-Harris).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie James Eggers and Jamie Sue
Fuller Eggers and her sisters, Jessica Harris and Angela Walton.

Kate was born in Augusta, GA and lived in Edgefield, SC. She graduated from Strom
Thurmond High School in 1967 and was named as a National Merit Scholar. Her mother
was a piano teacher, and Kate began lessons at the age of six. After many piano
lessons and recitals in high school, she attended Clemson University and was the
accompanist for the Clemson Glee Club. She graduated from Clemson in 1970 with a
BA in Psychology. Kate did social work, worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield working
with claims, and Social Security. She then helped start up and administer
Commonwealth Eyecare in Lexington, KY, an optical surgery practice.

She played piano and organ for several churches including St. Andrews by the Sea in
Destin. She also played keyboards in a local dance group, The Beach Boogie Band.

In 1999, she married Art Driggers, sailing off into the sunset to Destin, Florida. She worked as
an administrator for St. Andrews-by-the-Sea until her retirement in 2014. During much
of this time she was also the organist for the church.

Kate had many creative interests. Her ‘Phoenix Rising’ painting hung in the old St.
Andrews church. Kate loved constructing Christmas ornaments and framed art using old
jewelry and a glue gun. She was an avid reader. She started at four years old by reading the labels from food
jars while she helped her father with his grocery store. Kate wrote poetry preferring the
Haiku form.

In 2020, Kate received her amateur radio general class license, call sign K4SLX, and
enjoyed this hobby with her husband where they attended Ham radio conventions and
made many friends.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care that Kate received from Destination
Health and Rehabilitation Center.
