A much beloved mother and grandmother, Judy Marie Herrin, 80, passed peacefully on April 16, 2026, with family present. Judy was born in Mountain Grove, Missouri, to Grace (Burch) Broughton and Vester Broughton. She was an older sister to Perry Broughton. Judy married John K. Herrin and birthed three children: John Herrin III, Cheryl Ford, and Guinevere Herrin.
Judy graduated from Derby, Kansas, where her effervescent personality earned her the nickname “Bubbles”. Judy spent her lifetime serving the community, including working as an EMT. At the age of twenty, she began working at HCA Wesley Hospital, culminating in becoming the Department Manager over the Emergency Room. Judy truly found her calling when she attended Wichita State University and earned her Bachelors of Arts in Social Work. Judy began focusing her energy as a Case Manager for children in Foster Care and Adoption.
Judy was a social butterfly with a vivacious personality. She enjoyed engagement in many social and community organizations, including Beta Sigma Phi, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Jaycees’ Janes, Federated Women’s Club, and the Wichita Ski Club. Judy was an adventurous soul who loved being outdoors, especially near the water. When she was not boating, dancing, or traveling, she spent her time avidly reading Cozy Mysteries, gardening, or watching musicals. Judy enjoyed fashion and decorating and could make any moment memorable. Judy’s love of sunshine and family led her to retire on the Emerald Coast, where she formed a special bond with her great-grandson.
Judy is survived by her son, John Herrin, III, and wife, Brenda of Newall, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Chrystal and Michelle; daughter, Cheryl Ford and husband David, of Mulvane, Kansas; granddaughter, Jade; grandson Kane; daughter, Guinevere Herrin, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Christy Broughton of Derby, Kansas; nieces, Kelly and Jennifer. She was preceded in death by her father, Vester Broughton; her mother, Grace Broughton; her brother, Perry Broughton; and her nephew, Robbie Broughton.
A graveside celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Old Bethel Cemetery, 5783 Old Bethel Road, Crestview, FL 32536, at 3:30 in the afternoon.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Crestview Manor and Emerald Coast Hospital for their compassionate care and kindness.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Crestview Memorial.
