Joyce Planche Jacob

Joyce Jacob of Shalimar, Florida died Saturday, September 9, 2023 at her home. She was 84 years old. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Joyce graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1957, and married Ron Jacob at Grace Episcopal Church in New Orleans on Thanksgiving Day 1960; a few months after Ron's graduation from Tulane University. After moving back and forth between Florida and New Orleans for a few years, the family settled permanently in Shalimar in 1969. The time was interrupted by a three-year stay (1978-1981) in The Hague, Netherlands, where Ron worked for Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and Joyce was active in the wives’ club and planning family trips all over Europe. Returning to the same house in Shalimar in 1981, Joyce joined the Women of the Church (later ECW) of St. Simon’s Episcopal Church and served on the “kitchen crew” for decades; running the food sales booth at the annual Craft Fair, publishing the church cookbooks, and cooking for funeral receptions. For a few years in the mid-1980s, she co-owned a flower shop, Impressions, on Racetrack Road in Fort Walton Beach. Since 2020, Joyce was a beloved regular at DaVita Kidney Care, where she went for dialysis.

Joyce is survived by her husband of nearly sixty-three years, Ron, and two children: Holly Zook (and husband, Brian) of San Antonio, Texas and Ron Jacob, Jr., (and wife, Margaret) of Shalimar; as well as four grandchildren: Lauren Zook of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Melanie Zook of Washington, DC; Jillian Jacob (and husband, Steven Meyer) of Metairie, Louisiana and Beverly Jacob, a freshman at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at St. Simon’s on the Sound Episcopal Church, 28 Miracle Strip Parkway, Fort Walton Beach, Florida with committal immediately after in the church columbarium. A reception will follow in the church atrium.
