Joseph Cornelius Mathews

Joseph C. Mathews passed away to be with his Lord May 29, 2022 in Panama City Beach, Florida. Joe was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 28, 1936, to Joe Henry Mathews and Beatrice Turner Mathews. After graduating from Grady High School, he attended John Marshall Law School and Georgia State University. He served in the Naval Reserves for eight years and was a home builder in Atlanta most of his adult life. Joe was a kind and gentle man and loved by all that knew him; remembered as a role model for his children and will be forever in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Henry and Beatrice Mathews; sister, Margaret Mathews Mitchel; and his daughters, Terri Mathews Hunter, and Leslie Mathews Aldridge.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Brenda G. Mathews; son’s Joey M (Bess Anne) Mathews, Shannon Joyner, and Landon (Charlann) Joyner; grandchildren, Lindsay Coletta, Shelby Hunter, and Timothy Aldridge, Grant Joyner; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Anita Mathews Mize; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Seagrass Village Senior Living, Seagrass Drive, Panama City Beach, Florida, 2nd floor chapel.
