Jonathan Schlager Obituary

Jonathan D. Schlager passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2026, leaving behind a void that can never truly be filled.

Born on March 15, 1982, in Louisville, Kentucky, Jonathan was the second son born to Michael and Linda Schlager. He graduated from Oldham County High School, where he began cultivating the passions that would shape the rest of his life. He went on to live a life defined by love, service, loyalty, and music.

From his days playing the flute in his high school band and spending countless hours with a guitar in hand to composing music and performing in metal bands, music was woven into who he was. Whether on stage in a fishnet shirt, sharing songs with friends, or helping someone learn their first chords, Jonathan’s passion for music connected him to people throughout his life.

Jonathan dedicated much of his life to service, proudly serving in the United States Air Force from 2002 until his retirement in 2025 while also serving the community through a distinguished career in law enforcement. He served with the Fort Walton Beach Police Department from 2009 to 2012 before joining the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, where he served from 2012 until 2026. Respected by peers and leadership alike, he excelled in every role he held, earning honors throughout his career, including Deputy of the Year in 2013 and the Life Saving Award, while becoming a trusted mentor to many.

Jonathan approached every role with the same commitment, strength, and dedication. Yet of all the roles he held, the ones he was most proud of were those of husband and father.  Jonathan is the deeply loved husband and best friend of Megan Munson Schlager, with whom he shared 13 years of marriage.  Together, Jonathan and Megan built a life rooted in love, laughter, and partnership, through which they welcomed their lives’ greatest blessing, their daughter, Lily.  From the moment Lily was born, Jonathan’s unconditional love and pride in her served as his ultimate compass, guiding his life with purpose.  Megan and Lily, Jonathan’s girls as he affectionately referred to them, were the center of his world, and the love he had for them was evident in everything he did.

More than any title or accomplishment, Jonathan will be remembered for the way he made people feel. He possessed a larger-than-life personality and a rare gift for making others feel seen, valued, and important. Whether you knew him for years or had only met him once, Jonathan had a way of leaving a lasting impression. He loved an inappropriate joke, never passed up an opportunity to give his friends a hard time, and could make people laugh without even trying.

Jonathan is survived by his wife, Megan; his daughter, Lily; his parents, Mike and Linda; his brother, Chris; and extended family members. In addition to thousands of Airmen, deputies, other law enforcement officers, service brothers and sisters, there are also fellow musicians, and countless friends whose lives are forever changed for the better for having known and loved him.

While the world is undeniably quieter without his music and laughter, Jonathan’s legacy will live on through Megan and Lily, the countless people he impacted, and all those he loved.
