Jon Joseph Kazek, age 55, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to John and Betty Kazek on April 24, 1968. Jon attended St. Thomas Academy and the University of Minnesota. After twenty-nine winters spent in Minnesota, Jon and his future bride, Anne Hurrle, moved to the beach. They have resided in Miramar Beach for the past twenty-six years.
Jon had a big personality, a zest for life and a passion for helping and serving others and his community. He was a general contractor and founding partner of Dixon Kazek Construction in 2001 and later added a partner to create DKM Custom Homes. He took great pride in his hard work, attention to detail and very special relationships with the vendors, subcontractors, and owners of the houses he built and properties he helped remodel.
One of his biggest passions was his commitment to serving others in his community. He was always ready to lend a hand and help anyone in need. He was knowledgeable and resourceful, compassionate, dedicated, reliable and would do anything asked of him. Jon will be remembered for his compelling personality of strength and warmth. He was a proud member of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and leader of their volunteer Sheriff's Posse. Over the course of the last ten years, he volunteered thousands of hours bettering the community and building countless relationships.
A vocal Christian and active member of Coastline Calvary Chapel Destin, Jon was a committed servant of Christ and treasured the relationships that he formed with his church family. He looked forward to Worship Sunday as it was an inspiring way to start his week.
Jon had a relentless passion for serving others, but treasured his downtime. At the end of a hard day, he enjoyed cooking a good meal, drinking a fine glass of wine, and relaxing with his wife and dog. On Sundays after church, you could find Jon at the beach soaking up the sun and watching the waves.
Jon is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-four years, Anne; his father, John (Terri); mother, Betty; brothers, David (Nicole) and Scott (Ashlee); step brothers, Matt (Kelly) Stamps, Brad Stamps, and Kyle Stamps; in laws, Don (Jan) Hurrle, Jen (Dave) Melum and Jill McKenna; nephews, Ryan and Justin Kazek, Cole and Cameron McKenna, Riley, and Brady; niece, Elise Melum; and business partners and friends, Steve (Carla) Dixon and Chris (Rachel) Morrison. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, step nephews and nieces, countless friends and familiar faces, too numerous to mention by name, but all special in Jon’s heart.
Jon had an exceptional love for dogs, specifically Boxers. Over the years, he and his wife, Anne, have raised and rescued eight different Boxers, Chloe I, Chloe II, Maisy, Dixie, Tessa, Kenzie, and Kodie. He will be greatly missed by his current Boxer, Tank.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt and sincere thanks to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Coastline Calvary Chapels Destin and Gulf Breeze, Sacred Heart Hospitals Emerald Coast and Pensacola.
Jon's unending commitment to giving continues through tissue donation.
Jon’s favorite Bible passage was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
One of Jon’s favorite phrases was “Trust, not worry, faith, not fear, always know the Lord is near.”
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boxer Aid and Rescue Coalition (BARC). https://www.boxerarc.org
