Johnnie Ray McCormick, Sr.

Johnnie Ray McCormick, Sr., age 57, of Freeport, Florida passed away peacefully Sunday, April 18, 2021.  He was born October 15, 1963 in DeFuniak Springs, Florida to William Henry Sr. and Nina Faye McCormick.  Johnnie Ray was a lifelong resident of Freeport and Christian by faith.  He was a devoted father and grandfather.  Johnnie worked with the City of Freeport for nearly 20 years.  He was devoted to his family.  He loved spending time with his sons and only granddaughter.  Johnnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, Nascar, and reminiscing about the old times growing up in Freeport.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 24 years, Terrie Vanessa Knight McCormick; infant daughter, Kimberly Knight McCormick; father, William Henry McCormick, Sr.; mother, Nina Faye McCormick; brother, Douglas Doven McCormick; nephew, Jared Kyle McCormick; and brother-in-law, Gene Goodwin.

Johnnie Ray is survived by two sons, Johnnie Ray McCormick, Jr. and wife Valerie and Shelby Lee McCormick; granddaughter, Julia Vanessa McCormick; brother, William Boots McCormick, Jr. and wife Sandy; two sisters, Aurelia Faye Goodwin and Pamela Lorraine Canaday and husband Jimmy; numerous nieces and nephews, Blake McCormick and wife Shara, Jessica McCormick, Thomas and John Goodwin, and Will and Wesley Canaday; and numerous cousins of five generations.  Johnnie was loved by so many.  He will always be in our hearts and memories and he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at New Beginnings Church, 1564 State Highway 20 West, Freeport, Florida 32439, beginning at 3 p.m. with Minister Joel Davis and Pastor Louis Taunton officiating.  A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Committal services will follow at Hatcher Cemetery.  Flowers are being accepted.  Those asked to serve as pallbearers are, Alex Knight, Aaron Knight, Jesse Schober, Will Canaday, Wesley Canaday, and Ashley McCormick.  

Friends and family will be meeting at Johnnie Ray, Jr. and Valerie McCormick's residence, 135 Waterview Cove, Freeport, Florida, Monday, April 19th at 5 p.m.  Also following the funeral services Tuesday, family and friends will meet again at Waterview Cove.  Food is being accepted.
