Major John W. White, Jr., USAF (Retired), resident of Crestview, Florida, went home to be with
his Lord and Savior on January 26, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. White was born in
Stockbridge, Georgia on June 15, 1950 and would go on to graduate from the United States Air
Force Academy in 1972. He was married to the love of his life, Libby for over 50 years and was
a devoted man of God, husband, father, and grandfather. He served for over 20 years as a
fighter pilot in the United States Air Force, flying all sorts of fighter aircraft: including the F-4
Phantom and the F-15 Eagle and then would work until recently as a Computer Security and
Networking Engineer. Though many knew him for years by his pilot callsign, “Jumper,” given
because of his insatiable love for skydiving, his grandchildren bestowed upon him an updated
callsign that he cherished, “Bumper.” He took on many duties over his life including: Deacon,
Coach, Choir Director, Sound Technician, and handyman who could accomplish any task. All
who knew him recognized his incredibly giving spirit and his desire to put others before himself.
He was truly a servant leader.
He is survived by his wife, Libby; children, Dr. John C. White (Andrea), Beverly White (Jeryme);
his Mother, Jackie White; siblings, David White (Johnette), Stephen White (Kathy), Wanda
Ulveling (Chuck), and Phyllis Pendergrass (Walt); and his beloved grandchildren, John Will (10)
and Ava (14), and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Baptist Church, Pascagoula, Mississippi on
February 8th, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.
The family would like to give special thanks to the medical staff at Fort Walton Beach Medical
Center and Emerald Coast Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Trinity
Classical Academy, in Pascagoula, Mississippi or Emerald Coast Hospice in Crestview, Florida.
