John Truman Rotruck

John "Jason" Rotruck, 80, of Destin, Florida, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025. Born John Truman Rotruck on January 25, 1945 in Cumberland, MD to Truman "Jack" Rotruck and Evelyn Lucile Secrist Rotruck, he grew up on a farm in rural West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James "Jim" Rotruck and Jerrold "Jerry" Rotruck.

Jason went to West Virginia University for his undergraduate degree, where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Dr. Rotruck earned his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin after doing groundbreaking research in Selenium. He wrote many research papers and created many new products, while working at Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati, OH as the Director of Research and Development and was an incredibly well-respected scientist in his field.

He raised his two children in the nearby town of Oxford, OH, where he lived for many years before retiring to Destin, FL. He was known as "Jackie" to his family and "Jason" to his friends. He enjoyed playing sports such as baseball, golf, and running and loved watching sports on television and in person. Jason enjoyed growing orchids, gardening, following the stock market and playing chess.

In his later years, he enjoyed going out to eat at his favorite restaurants, where he was a regular and well-known and liked by the staff. He also enjoyed making the rounds all around town and visiting different friends at the Elks and Am Vets in Destin.

Jason is survived by his son, Robert "Bob" Rotruck and wife, Teresa Herrera; daughter, Jennifer York and husband, John York; and one granddaughter, Aurora Rotruck; and many friends and family members. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his compassionate and dedicated caregivers, Dianne, Nita and Velma, who always made his days brighter and brought so much comfort to his life.

A celebration of life is being held on September 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the American Veterans Post 29 of Destin.
