John Edwin Evans, 74, born October 7, 1946, died on September 13, 2021 after a long fight with Dementia. John met his wife, Clare in 1976. Their first date was a hike up the mountain to Sun Fish Pond at the Delaware Water Gap in New Jersey. John attended a military academy in Florida and joined the Air Force upon graduating high school. He served 4 years at Bentwaters Air Force base in England and competed with the Air Force Skeet Team throughout Europe. He was proud of his 99.6 accuracy record. John spent 2 years in the Army National Guard upon returning to the US.
John loved all manner of outdoor sports. He went scuba diving in the Atlantic off the Jersey coast; was an avid skier and served on the Vernon Valley Ski Patrol in Northwest Jersey; loved white water rafting on the LeHigh; loved canoeing and camping along the Delaware and kayaking the New Jersey cranberry bogs.
John is survived by his wife, Clare, two stepsons, Harry and Joseph, beloved friends, Tim and Maureen, dear sweet Isabella and her mom and dad Frank and Julie and friends in the Emerald Lakes and Calle Escada communities. Friends and Family will gather for a private celebration of John’s life.
No longer encumbered by the fog of dementia, John, go and hike the highest mountain, ski the steepest slopes, dive in the deepest of oceans, raft the whitest rapids, canoe the peaceful rivers, kayak the lazy bogs. We love you. Rest In Peace and God Speed!
